Accessibility

Statement

The Ol' Hook & Eye is striving to make its content accessible to as many users as possible. This is an ongoing process, changing the website to adhere to ever stricter guidelines.
To aid in navigation within the Ol' Hook & Eye, the following keyboard access keys are enabled.
  • Access Key 1 - Home Page
  • Access Key 2 - Skip navigation
  • Access Key 3 - Top of page (to access navigation)
  • Access Key 4 - Search & Sitemap
  • Access Key 6 - How to Use
  • Access Key 8 - Privacy Policy
  • Access Key 9 - Contact Webmaster
  • Access Key 0 - Accessibility Statement (this page)
These "shortcut" keys are accessed differently depending upon the user's platform and browser. In Microsoft Windows using Internet Explorer 5.5+, hold down the "Alt" key and press the desired access key, then release and press "Enter" to jump to the corresponding location. The same keys work in a Gecko based (Netscape 6.2+ or Mozilla Firefox) browser, however there is no need to press the "Enter" key. Opera users must hold down the "Shift" key and press the "Esc" key, then release and select the access key. The key combination for most browsers working on the Apple system is to hold down the "Cmd" key and press the relevant access key.
The Ol' Hook & Eye uses only relative font sizes that are compatible with the user-specified "Text Size" menu option in browsers.
ALL images in this website have "alt" attributes. Content images have descriptive attributes and purely decorative graphics have null attributes. All image links also include "title" attributes.
To the best of my knowledge this website satisfies all of level A conformance of the W3C® Web Accessibility Initiative priority checkpoints. The majority of level AA and level AAA checkpoints have also been fulfilled. This is a judgment call since many guidelines are vague and can not be tested automatically.
Explanation of Level A Conformance
This site was lovingly hand-coded using a text editor. In order to have this website more accessible, no frames were used and it is not required to have JavaScript enabled. All pages were tested and most validate to XHTML and CSS conformance to W3C recommendations (see exceptions below).
Valid XHTML 1.0! Valid CSS!

An <embed> tag is required to play the video in all browsers on The KV Caught on Film page and therefore will not validate when a video is playing. Also, some of the search results from the Search & Sitemap page may not validate since the search engine outputs unencoded ampersands. These two are the only known pages that will not conform to XHTML standards.
