you will need the following to view the Ol' Hook & Eye website:
  • A web-browser that is Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater, Opera™ 7.0 or greater, Safari™ 1.2 or greater, or a Gecko based (Netscape®6.2+ or Mozilla Firefox) browser.

    Opera Users - Please set your browser identification in Network Preferences to "Identify as Opera."

    Mac® Users - This website works best using the Safari browser.

  • Adobe® Flash Player plug-in must be installed to run the Introduction.

  • Windows Media® Player, QuickTime® or RealPlayer® must be installed to run The KV Caught on Film video. A standard MPEG is also provided to be viewed on any video player.

  • A sound card capable of playing Wave files to hear the pronunciation of "Kishacoquillas."

  • The display resolution is set at 800 by 600 pixels or greater.
The Ol' Hook & Eye opens with an animated introduction. You have the option of bypassing this introduction the next time you visit the site by checking the check box. You can change this setting or view the introduction again by clicking "Replay Intro" at the top of the Home page.
To explore the KVRR, click on any of the railroad specific links in the top frame.

To access the relevant links or the awards that this site has won, click on the site-specific links on the left side of the Home page.

You can easily contact me or view the copyright and privacy statements by clicking the appropriate links at the bottom of every page.

If you want to quickly reach the beginning or end of a page, simply click the top Page Top Button Graphic or bottom Page Bottom Button Graphic arrow buttons usually found in the top right corner.
For your convenience, a sitemap with a search function is provided to help you quickly find what you're looking for. Click the smokin' engine at top to access the sitemap from any page. Smokin' Engine Graphic

To keep the sitemap short, the site sections are compressed. To expand a section and see all of its associated links, click the section's expand button Expand Button Graphic To compress an expanded section click the compress button Compress Button Graphic.
The site was designed so that all external links will open in a new browser window unless otherwise noted. Most external links are obvious, such as those in the links page and links to the award programs that have honored this site. Other not so obvious external links will be labeled as a web address (www.someothersite.com).
With JavaScript enabled, some internal links will open in a new "pop-up" browser window, notably when you view an enlarged image of a photograph (see below). If you click an internal link and a pop-up window is already open, the new material will overwrite the old material in the pop-up window.
You can get an enlarged view of any photograph by clicking on it.
Some enlarged photographs will have a "See Now" See Now Button Graphic button in the bottom right corner. By clicking this button you will see how the same location looks like today. Click the "See Then" button to return to the original photograph.
Occasionally a photograph will have a "Magnify" Magnify Button Graphic button in the top left corner. By clicking this button you will see a magnified portion of the photograph and an explanation of the view. Click the button again to return to the original photograph.
The Route section of this site makes extensive use of image maps. By mousing over the underlined text of railways on the maps you will see the route that a specific railway took (JavaScript required). Clicking the underlined text will link you to a brief history of that railway.

Be sure to check out the Belleville map in the Route section. Mousing over the industries on this map will display photographs of the industries that served the KV railroad. Clicking an industry will display an enlarged photo and a brief historical account.
Simply mouse over an abbreviation to display its definition. For example, move your mouse over KVRR.
Numerical dates on this website follow the ISO 8601 standard format year-month-day (www.iso.org). If this is confusing, the full date can be displayed by mousing over the numerical date. For example, move your mouse over 2008-07-04.
