1971 - 1973
My father picked this up from a friend to stop his son from bugging him for a motorcycle. It was called a Buffalo and as you can see, it was rather big for a "minibike." It had a lawn-mower engine, the kind you had to pull-start, with a throttle and one hand brake for the rear wheel. There was no gear shift, it only had one speed - GO! A toggle switch that worked less times than not was used to turn off the bike. I remember that it shook more than my Harley and took a heavy hand to turn the thing. "Buffalo" was certainly an appropriate name for this temperamental beast!

In the background is our 15 acres of farmland that I was allowed to trail blaze a path around - that is, until I started to round off the corners a bit too much. The photo shows my Aunt Eva preparing for her first ride in the Summer of 1972. No doubt she is reminiscing about riding on the back of my father's old Indian.
