In the Spring of 1995 Peg found a used '84 Honda Shadow to replace her Honda Hawk. It was almost identical to my previous Shadow except that it was black and had 700cc's. I thought that this would be low enough for her and persuaded her to try it out. The owner allowed her to ride the bike, it fit her like a glove and she bought it on the spot. Any thoughts of quiting riding were quickly put to rest. It's interesting to note that she briefly entertained the idea of owning a Harley. At one of the HOG rallies, she demo rode several Harleys. She thought that they shook too much but I was riding one, all of our friends had one, and to be a full fledged HOG member, you had to ride one. So we went to the local H-D shop, check in hand, to purchase an 883 Hugger. Believe it or not, the salesperson actually convinced Peg that she was better off riding the 700 Shadow and that she would never be satisfied with an 883! Several years ago the cam chain was making noise and the tensioner was replaced. Be warned that this is a common problem with this bike model and year. A couple of years later the cam chain was rattling again, but rather than getting it replaced, Peg decided to sell the Shadow. She says she's perfectly happy riding on the back of my Valkyrie for now, but we're both keeping our eyes open for a nice used bike. |
