In the 1950's, using a homemade lathe and making castings out of aluminum and iron, Richard J. Stokes spent two to three years fabricating this live steam model of locomotive No.6 for his Tequesquite Arroyo Railroad. The model was scaled at one inch to a foot, making it about five feet (1.52 m) long, weighting approximately 100 lbs. (45.4 kg) and having 80 psi. (551.6 kPa) steam pressure. In the late 1980's the locomotive traveled from California to Ohio when it was bought by Jim S. Keith and where it remains to this day. This is the only scale locomotive that Stokes created and according to Keith, the engine runs well - quite an accomplishment for any modeler using less-that-first-rate tools on their first try. |
