The KV Caught on Film

I was at a model railroad convention near Philadelphia and by chance I came across a commercial videotape that had footage on the Ol' Hook & Eye! I've seen film taken during the National Railway Historical Society's excursion in 1937, but this piece was new to me. I'm not exactly sure when this rare old home movie was made but it had to have been within the last six years of the railroad's existence.

The 10-second movie starts in the railroad yard in front of the station in Belleville (Note that the title mileage is off, it should read 15 instead of 6 miles). Next is a close-up of the carbarn with coach No.7 peeking out. The camera pans to the right revealing more of the railroad yard. In the background, from left to right, can be seen the old Belleville Flour Mills, the train with coach No.3 at the end, and on the far right, Reuben Yoder's coal tipple. The next shot is a close-up of engine No.1033 and coach No.4 on the inside track leading into the enginehouse.

'Memories of Steam in the Northeast' Video Tape Marc S. Balkin, owner of Mark I Video, has allowed me to show you this movie on my site. It is from the Heritage Series from Mark I Video called Memories of Steam in the Northeast. Besides the 24-second clip on the KV, the 30-minute tape also has footage on the Lehigh Valley, Reading, Jersey Central, New York Central, Tionesta Valley, Bellefonte Central and Coudersport & Port Allegany, among others. Naturally the quality of the tape is far superior to what you see here.

Copies of this tape can be ordered from Mark I Video for $24.95 by calling 1-800-666-2751 or from the website at www.mark1video.com.
