The KV had on payroll one official train crew, consisting of an engineer, fireman, brakeman and conductor. Frequently, the train ran without a brakeman, and the fireman on duty had the added responsibility of throwing switches and flagging the train through road crossings. When an engineer left the KVRR, a fireman usually filled that position. You can tell by looking over the list that an employee had to wear several different hats, taking on added responsibilities when a regular fellow employee was either sick or on vacation.
